Methods of Technical Counter-surveillance (TSCM)

There are various methods for counter-surveillance that can be applied depending on the situation and need. Here are some of the most common and effective methods:

1. Technical Inspection (Sweep):
   Use of specialized devices to detect eavesdropping devices in rooms, vehicles, and electronic devices. This includes spectrum analyzers, high-frequency detectors, and Non-Linear Junction Detectors (NLJD).
2. Frequency Analysis:
   Examination and analysis of electromagnetic frequencies in the surrounding environment to identify suspicious signals and transmissions.
3. Thermography:
   Use of thermal cameras to detect unusual heat sources that might indicate active electronic devices.
4. Acoustic Analysis:
   Use of devices to detect and analyze sound sources to locate hidden microphones or other eavesdropping devices.
5. Telecommunications Testing:
   Examination of phone lines, networks, and other communication methods for tampering or eavesdropping devices.
6. Non-Linear Junction Detection (NLJD):
   Use of NLJD devices to detect semiconductor components used in eavesdropping devices, even if they are turned off.
7. Jamming and Signal Blockers:
   Use of jammers to block the function of eavesdropping devices and prevent the transmission of data.
8. Signal Encryption:
   Applying encryption techniques to communications and data transmission to intercept and render eavesdropping ineffective.
9. Use of Secure Rooms (SCIFs):
   Setting up and using special rooms shielded against eavesdropping attempts and meeting high security standards.
10. Physical Inspection:
    Manual searching of premises, furniture, electronic devices, and other potential hiding places to find eavesdropping devices that may not be detectable by technical equipment.
